This ain't my first rodeo: things I've learned over the years doing system migrations

The terms "system migration" bring fear to the heart of just about any librarian.  In reality, they are nothing to be feared, and in fact, can be a wonderful opportunity to look at processes, data, and staffing.  We will look at some of the changes and concepts that have evolved over the last 25 years and can be applied to system migrations today by someone who has done over 500 system migrations, from paper environments to electronic systems, as well as from one electronic environment to another.  During this time, there are some things that can be gleaned from this experience to not only help the migration go better but to have a better environment on the other side.  Some things seem obvious, and some will seem downright crazy, but if viewed with an open mind, a system migration can be a positive for library staff and users alike.
